Kings Highway Roadway Project:

Funded By: SC DOT ($2.85) and designed by City of Myrtle Beach's former City  Engineer Mr. Patrick Sadek, P.E.

Issues: The arterial is always congested during the Summer Season especially during events. high number of accidents, pedestrian trip hazard, difficult Left-Turn movements, No landscaping, poor surface drainage, flooding during heavy storms, poor & cluttered street & regulatory signage (clutter), deteriorated pavement marking, and difficult for pedestrians to cross.

Improvements: Included eleven-foot travel lanes, Landscaped median, Eight-foot wide sidewalk, curb & gutter, driveways, dedicated left-turn lanes, ADA ramps, pavement marking, tree grates, landscaping, lighting, new signage, crosswalks & new storm drainage structures (Catch basins & frame & grates). The project was designed during the summer season and constructed during off-season to reduce impact on merchants and tourists. The project was only delayed 3 weeks and built within budget.
